The Terracotta Craft

Common Clay is naturally mined clay which gives a radish ground color on firing and is available in almost all the geographical regions, basically mined from river beds, lake beds, paddy field etc. Terracotta means baked clay, the earthen pots or objects are being matured after baking at certain temperature and then those are known as “Terracotta”. Terracotta pottery in its basic form is practiced almost in every part of the country as traditional craft by potter community. But the Artistic Terracotta Products are rarely practiced by individual or groups. In very few places of our country the Artistic Terracotta Product is being practiced by Kumbhakar communities

Terracotta

Terracotta art, the first expressive language of human civilization, began with storytelling through wall and relief paintings on stone. Modern terracotta art tells stories in framed scenes, often created from small assembled parts to prevent bending and cracking. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, terracotta art is versatile and weather-resistant.
